How to become a member of DFIM – Danish insurance companies (non-registered vehicles)

This guide only applies to Danish insurance companies wishing to provide motor third-party liability insurance for non-registered vehicles in Denmark.

Use and purpose

This guide only applies to Danish insurance companies wishing to provide motor third-party liability insurance for non-registered vehicles in Denmark. Guidance on which vehicles are subject to registration can be found here: SKAT – Vehicles subject to registration.

Insurance companies authorised to provide compulsory third-party liability insurance for motor vehicles in Denmark are required by law to become members of DFIM.

This guide provides information on the process and requirements for becoming a member of DFIM. In particular, the admission process involves an interaction between the Danish FSA and DFIM, and DFIM is therefore in continuous dialogue with the Danish FSA.

This guide should be read as a chronological step-by-step guide.

Contact DFIM

Insurance companies may contact DFIM by email at dfim@dfim.dk with a request for admission. Admission can only take place once a Class 10 approval has been granted by the Danish FSA, meaning that the insurance company is authorised to provide motor third-party liability insurance. However, companies are welcome to contact DFIM for guidance on the admission process before applying for Class 10 approval with the Danish FSA.

DFIM will acknowledge receipt and provide this guide, including information on the requirements for admission, which may support the process. See further details below.

Confirmation of membership of DFIM

When all the above requirements have been met, all prerequisites for membership are in place, and DFIM will send a confirmation of membership together with the signed membership agreement to the insurance company.

At the same time, the membership will be registered on DFIM’s website and with the COB, where relevant.
