Gefion Insurance – regarding the bankruptcy

Gefion Insurance A/S was a Danish insurance company that primarily sold motor insurance in both Denmark and other European countries. The company went bankrupt on 7 June 2021. In connection with the bankruptcy, Gefion Insurance A/S changed its name to Gefion Finans A/S.

Following the bankruptcy, DFIM, in its role as the national Green Card Bureau and Motor Guarantee Fund, covers claims caused by foreign-registered vehicles insured with Gefion, while the Danish Guarantee Fund for Non-life Insurance Companies covers claims caused by Danish-registered vehicles.

Gefion primarily provided insurance abroad through a network of agents and brokers acting on its behalf. This model was used in countries including Poland, Germany and France, from which DFIM has now taken over the coverage.
