Frontier insurance in Denmark

When do you need a frontier insurance?

You must buy frontier insurance if a foreign-registered motor vehicle from a country outside the EU/EEA is brought into Denmark as the first country, and the vehicle does not have valid green card insurance.

This is a requirement under Danish insurance rules. Frontier insurance provides the legally required third-party liability cover until the vehicle is properly insured or registered in Denmark.

DFIM issues the frontier insurance policy, which ensures that your vehicle can be driven legally in Denmark and throughout the EU/EEA.

Note: If the vehicle was purchased in an EU/EEA country, it must be insured in the country of purchase. In this case, you do not need a frontier insurance.

What does frontier insurance cost?

The price depends on the type of vehicle and the number of months the insurance is valid (always full months). If you wish to renew your policy, please do so before the policy expires – otherwise you must take out a new policy, at an extra cost.

Once payment has been received, DFIM will send the policy to you by email or to your Danish address.

Frontier insurance is issued for a minimum of one month at a time and must be renewed before it expires.

Important information

• Vehicles with an unladen weight of up to 3,500 kg are classified and priced as passenger cars

• Vehicles with up to 9 persons including the driver are classified and priced as passenger cars

• DFIM only provides the legally required third-party liability insurance – not comprehensive (casco) insurance

• Geographical cover applies throughout the EU/EEA
