DFIM stands for Danish motor insurers' bureau. DFIM is, among other things, a guarantee fund that pays compensation to people who suffer damage caused by uninsured or unknown vehicles.
DFIM also charges a daily fee of DKK 250 to registered owners or users of motor vehicles without the required third‑party liability insurance.
Payment
Log in to daily fee self-service with MitID (use MitID Erhverv for company cases).
You can view your case and pay by card or MobilePay.
If you do not have MitID, contact DFIM.
When you pay the daily fee, the payment is processed as an online transaction. Dankort, VISA and Mastercard all use online security solutions that make online payments more secure.
The solution consists of a one-time code that is sent to you via SMS, as well as a password that you create and must remember.
On Nets.eu, you can register or update your mobile phone number linked to your payment card and create a password.
Follow these steps:
Select “Register mobile number and password for your card” and then click “Next”
Enter the 16-digit card number shown on the front of your payment card
Confirm using MitID (the MitID app is not required)
Enter your chosen password under “Password” and “Repeat password” (remember it)
Enter your mobile phone number
Click “Confirm”
Once you have registered your payment and created a password, you can pay the daily fee online using the SMS code.
When you use your payment card, there are a number of spending limits. The limit depends on which bank you are a customer of.
Some banks allow you to increase the limit. You should therefore contact your bank to find out what options are available to you.
Yes, you can set up an instalment plan for outstanding daily fees via daily fee self-service, if the following three conditions are met:
You are no longer registered as either the owner or user of the vehicle, or the number plates have been deregistered
The outstanding amount exceeds DKK 1,000
The instalment period is a maximum of 12 months
If you would like an instalment period of more than 12 months, please contact us.
Note regarding insurance during an instalment plan:
Under section 106(6) of the Danish Road Traffic Act, you cannot take out insurance for a vehicle as long as you have unpaid daily fees. This also applies while you are paying in instalments.
If you do not have access to MitID, you can contact DFIM by phone on +45 41 91 90 69 on weekdays.
You can find the opening hours on our contact page.
When you receive a reminder, it is because we follow our standard reminder procedure until the vehicle has been deregistered. When you deregister your vehicle with the Danish Motor Agency, it may take some time before the deregistration is registered. It is therefore important that you submit documentation to DFIM as soon as possible.
Please note that we can only process any documentation once the vehicle has been deregistered with The Danish Motor Vehicle Agency.
When selling a vehicle
When selling a vehicle, it may take up to four working days for the deregistration to be registered (if documentation has not been submitted).
To avoid daily fees during this period, you should submit the confirmation from The Danish Motor Vehicle Agency to DFIM as soon as possible.
When scrapping a vehicle
If the vehicle has been deregistered following scrapping and documentation has not been submitted, it may take up to 21 days before the deregistration is registered.
You will typically receive a certificate of destruction from the scrapyard, which can be submitted to DFIM.
To avoid daily fees during this period, you should submit the confirmation from The Danish Motor Vehicle Agency to DFIM as soon as possible.
How to submit documentation to DFIM
It is important that you submit a copy of both your enquiry and the response from The Danish Motor Vehicle Agency so that we can see the date of your request.
You can submit documentation in the following ways:
With MitID:
Log in to daily fee self-service. Under Enquiries, you can write to DFIM and attach your documentation.Without MitID:
Send an email to gebyr@dfim.dk, including your case number and attaching the documentation.
Please note that you can view your letters, including reminders, in self-service under your case on the same day they are sent to you by post.
If your insurance has been cancelled due to non-payment, you must first pay the daily fees to DFIM and then the outstanding amount to your insurance company.
Once the daily fees and the outstanding amount have been paid, you must buy insurance if you choose to keep the vehicle.
If you do not pay the daily fees, your case may be sent for legal debt recovery. Ultimately, DFIM may take enforcement action against your assets, for example your vehicle, in accordance with section 107(3) of the Danish Road Traffic Act.
As long as you have unpaid daily fees with DFIM, you cannot take out the required third-party liability insurance for any vehicle.
When you pay the daily fee, the payment is treated like any other online transaction. For online purchases, you generally have a 14-day right of withdrawal. However, payment of a daily fee is not the purchase of a product, and you therefore cannot make use of this right.
If you have been charged a daily fee on an incorrect basis, the amount paid will be refunded once DFIM has received documentation from your insurance company.
Complaints
If you wish to file a complaint, please note that this does not prevent daily fees from continuing to be charged as long as you or your company are registered as the owner or primary user of the vehicle in the Motor Register without third-party liability insurance.
This means that filing a complaint does not suspend the daily fees.
My vehicle is insured – what should I do?

About daily fees
The daily fee was introduced by law because, at the time it was adopted in January 2019, around 50,000 vehicles in Denmark were not covered by the required third-party liability insurance.
The purpose of the law is to reduce the number of uninsured vehicles and thereby lower the overall costs that are otherwise shared by people who have taken out the required insurance. Neither the Danish Parliament nor DFIM considers it reasonable that insured drivers should pay for damage caused by uninsured vehicles.
If you are the owner or user of a vehicle, such as a car, motorcycle or moped, and it is not covered by the required third-party liability insurance, you will be charged a daily fee payable to DFIM.
The daily fee was introduced by law and came into effect on 1 January 2019. The purpose of the law is to ensure that uninsured vehicles become insured. Until that happens, the fee helps cover the cost of damage caused to others in traffic.
If more than four working days have passed since the day your vehicle was sold and the new owner has not re-registered it, you can deregister the vehicle in writing on the Danish Motor Vehicle Agency’s website.
When you request deregistration, it may take four working days from the date of your request before the vehicle is deregistered. The Danish Motor Vehicle Agency does not deregister vehicles retroactively.

If you do not have a valid bill of sale and want to avoid being charged daily fees during these four working days – including weekends and public holidays when fees are also charged – see the answer below under “I have deregistered my vehicle – what should I do to avoid daily fees?”.
Even if your insurance has been cancelled, the number plates are not always deregistered automatically. You must therefore ensure that the number plates are deregistered via The Danish Motor Vehicle Agency.

DFIM obtains information from The Danish Motor Vehicle Agency – also known as the Digital Motor Register (DMR), which is the Danish Tax Agency’s IT system for insurance information on motor vehicles.
All insurance companies in Denmark uses DMR.
If you believe that your vehicle is covered by third-party liability insurance, please contact your insurance company so that any misunderstanding can be clarified.
If it turns out that your vehicle was insured during the period in question, we will cancel the daily fees once we have received confirmation from your insurance company.
If your vehicle did not have valid third-party liability insurance, the fees must be paid. Once all outstanding fees have been paid, you can take out third-party liability insurance.
Motor vehicles that are not in use must still be covered by the required third-party liability insurance as long as the vehicle is registered in the Register of Motor Vehicles.
Number plates can be deregistered by returning them to a number plate operator (e.g. an inspection centre).
Even if your vehicle is not in use, it must still be covered by the required third-party liability insurance as long as it is registered in the Register of Motor Vehicles.
Vehicles that have been stolen must still be insured. Even if your vehicle has been reported stolen and/or the insurance has been cancelled, the number plates are not always deregistered.
Therefore, you must ensure that the number plates are deregistered in writing via the Danish Motor Vehicle Agency’s website.
You must pay daily fees up to and including the day the vehicle was reported stolen if the insurance has been cancelled.
If your vehicle is later found, according to the police register, you will not be charged daily fees for the period during which the vehicle was stolen.
If the vehicle is found without number plates, DFIM must receive documentation of this. This ensures that you are not charged daily fees after the vehicle has been recovered.
Yes. Daily fees can also be charged to minors if they are registered as the owner or primary user of a vehicle without the required third-party liability insurance, for example a moped, scooter or car.
Under the law, it is the registered owner or user of the vehicle who is responsible for ensuring that the vehicle is insured at all times. This also applies if the person is under 18 years old and regardless of whether the vehicle is in use. DFIM therefore contacts the registered person directly and not a legal guardian.
If the vehicle is not insured, daily fees may be charged.
If you do not have access to MitID, you can contact DFIM by phone on +45 41 91 90 69.
DFIM will send you a self-service access code by email. Using this code, you can log in to your case without MitID.
If the code needs to be sent to another person, we require your consent. Once we have received your consent, we will send a self-service access code to the specified email address.
The Register of Uninsured Vehicles is administered by DFIM with approval from the Danish Data Protection Agency. You are registered if your third-party liability insurance has been cancelled due to non-payment, or if your vehicle is uninsured and you have therefore been charged daily fees, in accordance with section 106 of the Danish Road Traffic Act.
Your case with DFIM cannot be put on hold while your complaint is being processed by your insurance company.
You will therefore continue to be charged DKK 250 per day for lack of third-party liability insurance as long as the vehicle is registered in your name or your company’s name. The case may also be sent for legal debt recovery if you do not meet our payment deadline.
We always recommend that you pay the outstanding daily fees. You can do so by logging in to daily fee self-service with your MitID.
In some cases, the process with your insurance company prior to the cancellation may mean that you will be refunded the daily fees you have paid. In such cases, your insurance company must notify us once your complaint has been decided.
We may decide not to charge daily fees if the lack of third-party liability insurance is due to particularly mitigating circumstances. Under the same conditions, daily fees that have already been imposed may be waived. Contact us if you believe there are mitigating circumstances in your case.
You can call us or write to us via your case by logging in to self-service with your MitID.
