Part of the safety net in the insurance sector
DFIM is part of the insurance sector’s safety net and works to improve road safety by reducing the number of uninsured vehicles and strengthening awareness of the importance of motor third-party liability insurance.
We handle claims for individuals affected by unknown or uninsured motor vehicles and help ensure safe mobility across borders through international cooperation and insurance guarantees.
As a guarantee fund, we assist individuals who have been involved in accidents with uninsured or unknown motor vehicles by ensuring that their claim is handled, even when no insurance company is liable to cover it.
To reduce the number of uninsured vehicles, DFIM charges a daily fee for motor vehicles without the required third-party liability insurance. This ensures that owners of uninsured vehicles contribute to the costs that would otherwise be borne by those who have taken out the required insurance.
DFIM has also been designated by the Danish Ministry of Justice as both an information centre and a compensation body in Denmark under the EU Motor Insurance Directive.
This means that we exchange information on insurance matters with other countries and, in certain cases, can intervene in claims following accidents abroad. As part of international cooperation, we help ensure that motor vehicles can travel across borders with valid insurance cover.
DFIM’s members are all insurance companies in Denmark that provide third-party liability insurance for motor vehicles.
